Orientation for the course of internship
A. Goals of the course: Internship in the ENT department is a part of the integral education of medical students and closely associated with ENT lectures. Achieving the goals listed below is expected:
1. To breed doctors with good medical ethics and the personalities it takes to be a good doctor(being responsible, being loving and patient, having humanities accomplishment, having a strong motivation of learning and a good interpersonal relationship…)
2. To breed doctors with basic abilities for medical care, abundant medical knowledge and skills and good ability of communication
3. To be familiar with the essence of medical ethics and understand the interaction between diseases and the families and the society
4. To learn the manners to communicate with the patients and families and the skills to inquire about the history
5. To be familiar with the anatomy and physiology of the ear, nose, larynx and the head and neck
6. To be familiar with the basic physical examination of ENT
7. To associate the basic knowledge of ENT with clinical aspects of diseases
8. To learn how to discover problems aggressively and utilize the ability of solving problems with scientific methods and develop the attitude of learning for a lifetime
B. Teaching program : medical education based on “ability” for medical student (senior clerk) in three weeks:
1. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the ear, auditory and balance system
2. Knowledge of ear drum change of middle ear lesion.
3. Knowledge of pure tone audiogram and impedance
4. Knowledge of functional anatomy of nose and sinus
5. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the larynx
6. Knowledge of cause, clinic symptoms and signs, bacteriology, therapy of otitis externa and otitis media
7. Knowledge of classification of vertigo
8. Knowledge of meaning of early diagnosis and rehabilitation of congenital hearing impairment, and survey method and rehabilitation principle
9. Knowledge of cause, clinic symptoms and signs, bacteriology, therapy of otitis media effusion
10. Knowledge of mechanism, diagnosis, and therapy of rhinitis and allergic rhinitis
11. Knowledge of classification, clinic symptoms and signs, therapy of rhinosinusitis
12. Knowledge of cause, clinic symptoms and signs, pathologic classification, disease stage, and therapy of nasopharyngeal cancer
13. Knowledge of evaluation and management of neck mass
14. Knowledge of cause, clinic symptoms and signs, pathologic classification, disease stage, and therapy of oral cancer
15. Knowledge of cause, clinic symptoms and signs, disease stage, and therapy of laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancer
16. Knowledge of classification of benign laryngeal lesion(vocal lesion, vocal palsy)
